Storytelling Increases Empathy and Generosity

This is a delightful video illustrating the work of Dr. Paul Zak on the neuro-chemistry of storytelling, and how that links to behavioural change.  He argues that even the simplest narrative, if it is highly engaging and follows the classic dramatic arc outlined by the German playwright Gustav Freytag, can evoke powerful empathic responses associated with specific neurochemicals, namely cortisol and oxytocin.

Here’s a link to an article on Freytag’s dramatic structure.
